The amount of pain experienced during a heart attack is not directly proportional to the severity of the heart muscle damage. A person could experience severe pain, yet have a mild heart attack, while others who have only minor pain and discomfort may be experiencing a severe heart attack. The most important thing is to act quickly-- if your or someone you are with has chest discomfort, especially with other symptoms, call 911 and get to a hospital right away.
Since "Time is Muscle" in heart disease, opening the artery causing the heart attack as early as possible is critical. We have some of the best outcomes in the state.
The Meridian CardioVascular Network enables patients to receive the best care for heart disease. Time is muscle, so if you are experiencing chest pains, you can go to the nearest Meridian hospital -- close to home -- and you will receive quality care. All three hospitals are accredited chest pain centers. If you should need emergency open heart surgery during the angioplasty, paramedics are always standing by in the Cath Lab at Ocean and Riverview for immediate transfer to Jersey Shore University Medical Center..

Patients are in great hands when they visit Jersey Coast Vascular Institute at Ocean Medical Center. They are cared for by board certified vascular surgeons who have advanced training in vascular and endovascular procedures, which means that they can diagnose and treat vascular conditions and disease in a variety of specialized ways. Whether it is medication, a minimally invasive diagnostic test or procedure, or more advanced surgical procedure, patients will be well cared for at Ocean.
Vascular disease is one of the leading causes of death and disability among older men and women in America. As vascular surgeons, the primary tool we use in diagnosing vascular disease is a thorough examination including medical history. When vascular disease is suspected, we typically rely on an ultrasound to confirm our diagnosis, but the patient may also require an angiogram that we can perform in our state-of-the-art vascular lab.
Carotid Artery Stenosis occurs when the two large blood vessels in the neck become narrow, a condition that can lead to a stroke if left untreated. We were the first vascular service in the region to be federally approved to offer carotid stenting, which is a specialized procedure to correct this problem.
Dialysis access is an important part of the work we do as vascular surgeons. We are available 24/7 and work in a state-of-the-art endovascular lab adjacent to our office, right in the medical center. This means we can expedite treatment for dialysis patients so they can return to their hemodialysis treatment as quickly as possible.
